Someone wise once said: those who forget the past are doomed to repeat it. It seems as though we have forgetten things like the assissinations of the 60's, the democratic national convention or ohio state university killings when the powers that be went berserk on the people who voiced dissent with the way things were going. Where are the protestors today? Where are the young people who are willing to voice thier dismay? Who will speak up and say "this is wrong" Is the two americas from the civil war not merged into one state of a united people? This is not dems vs repubs, this is decent people vs evil people while a whole new class of sheep who arent saying anything bog the process of change down like knee deep mud, this is your country, do nothing, say nothing and it wont be the land of the free for very long.

Dude above me has a good point. You however, fail to see the merits on both sides. You clearly don't understand that people believe what they think is right. As much bad as you can say of one side, the followers can say the same of your side. It's an ideological debate. They tend to be messy and never end decisively.

To the guy below me, this forum carries no water what so ever. The truth is Americans are almost 50/50 with a small advantage to conservatives. Here on Y!A you can see the libs are more active than the cons, especially when it comes to flagging differing conservative answers for abuse.

I think the liberal motto here is "say what you want as long as we agree."

The really bizarre thing is the 1960's were a hellish time in this nation as the power elite strained against the changes of that day. But in the end the pendulum of change began to swing.

And much progress was made and then squandered and now may be irretrievably lost. The people who marched in the 1960's are today's Republicans, The Baby Boomers, who have had it their way from day one. And bizarre of bizarre is that the children of the baby boomers are some of the most conservative right wing folks out there.....

Almost makes the 1960's look like a complete waste of time.

What do you expect out of our kids? They have been told for years that they have to be nice to everyone. Gays, other ethnicity's, opposite sex, etc. etc. etc. They don't what to think anymore. This country is made up of good people. Mostly. But we have our share of loonies as well. You can thank the Democrats for the political correctness. And they will ride that jackass all the way to hell, and drag us with it. It will take a lot to get the younger generation riled up. but God help the bad guys when they do! We have the best kids in the world, right here in the USA! God bless America! And our kids!

One other point if I may! There are a lot of folks that want to be heard, but the news outlets will not let us speak!

Unfortunately, there are two Americas - but not as you describe them.

There are the delusional types that think people who stuff their vests with explosives and lethal shrapnel before heading off to a crowded shopping center or religious ceremony can be reasoned with. These are the peace at any cost people - I don't doubt but what they would convert to Islam rather than fight these radical extremists.

And then there are the people who realize that a group that uses tactics of terror and the killing of thousands of innocent men, women and children to further their demands cannot be reasoned with - and must be stopped.

Have you considered the consequences of yet another victory for the terrorists? Their tactics have essentially already defeated Spain, and France is probably next. Their goal is clearly stated:
Convert to Islam.......or die.

I'm presently not seeing any movement towards peace. This country becoming more and more evil every day. One thing America should do is to mind its own business. Stop interfering in other countries affairs. We should turn round and take care of our problems, crimes, gangs ,homelessness, you name it. You have to take care of your house before you go to the street. Secondly if you stay in your house you can't get beat up but if you go in the street the possibility of getting some slaps is greater.Lets just forget about the brain washing that we are going out to help. We are causing more trouble than helping and you have to help yourself before you go helping some one else.

It doesn't matter how many people support peace, if one person doesn't, there will be war. That said, there will always be someone who is not satisfied with peace, so it's better to face that fact and act on your own behalf to win wars early on before they become a serious problem.

I wouldn't put it in terms of good vs. bad. Of course, it's easy to see people whose views we don't agree with as "bad" but we have to keep in mind that most people feel they're doing something for a purpose as well. People who support the war are supporting our country/president, and thinking that they're standing up for what they believe in. They're not thinking that they want to see innocent people die, or that they necessarily even hate opposing countries. They're just standing up for what they believe is right.

I wouldn't even say there are "two Americas." Many people are caught in between. They're in a state where they don't quite want to support the war, but they also feel the need to support the troops. If you think about it, there aren't quite as many people who are completely and whole-heartedly set on pro-war or anti-war. Most people fall in between, where there's a lot of "Yes, but..." or "No...however.."

If you would read your history books, without war, there cannot be peace. There will always be someone who wants it all, and it will take a war to stop it. Then there will be peace for a little while, then it repeats itself.

For those who think we live in peace, show me any 10 years without a war, action, or police action in our history. It hasn't happened.

Where are the people that once believe in defending this country from those who want to kill us?We will have ask that question again when too many peace activists have destroyed Americas ability to defend itself.Pray to God that wont happen in our childrens life time.Great question by the way.
