1. Blindfold the contender & arm him/her with a substantil stick or club
2. Spin him/her three times (to cause dizziness)
3. Say "go - hit the pinata"
4. Stand far back and keep the party guests far back (at least 10 feet) to prevent an accidental clubbing
5. Let the contender take 4-10 whacks at the pinata before calling him/her off (depends on age or skill of contenders)
6. Repeat with the next contender until the pinata is ruptured

>Be aware that the pinata is partially controlled by someone pulling and swinging the pinata with the rope

> Instuct the kids not to run in to get the goodies from the ruptured pinata until the clubbing contender has be disarmed
(of course kids won't listen so a strong, responsible, adult must also rush in and disarm the contender )

The game is pretty simple. Have all the children get in a line, starting with the youngest and ending with the oldest. One at a time, they step up to the pinata. An adult puts a blindfold on them and guide them to a spot about a foot from the pinata. The child gets to swing the bat once. If it busts open, all the kids run to snatch up the candy. If it doesn't, they go to the back of the line and the next child gets a turn. The only rules are:
1. You must wear a blindfold when you swing at the pinata.
2. Only one child can swing at a time.
3. You only get to swing once per turn.
Usually, younger children need a little help. You can help them to swing the bat, it's not considered breaking the rules.

For real young kids, just keep the pinata in one place, give them a stick and let the swap for a while. For kids that are about 5 or so, just move it around a bit. For older kids, you should make it tough. Give them about three tries, a blindfold, and move it around in and out of reach.
