in fellow ship of the ring lord elron said the ring cannot be distroyred by any weapon or craft we here posses but is there anything that could have distroyed the ring a weapon a spell ?

He also said "It was made in the fires of Mount Doom, only there can it be unmade."
So no, there was no other way.

Read your question. No weapon or craft we possess. Obviously some one else possesses what you are looking for. My guess is anything forged out of the flames of Mount Doom can cut the ring, but if you have to go to the mountain to forge a weapon you might as well just throw the ring in the mountain. Of course if the ring had stayed in the Hobbit's shire it probably never would have been a problem. The problem began when Gandolf found out it existed. If he had never seen the ring it would have stayed with Frodo as a good luck charm.

If something else could hav edestroyed it, why should frodo and sam have to go to Mordor, the worst place in all of Middle earth? Since the good guys want to destroy the ring the only way of successfully destroying it is in Mt. doom. Although there have been many time where others tried to destroy it various ways. IF you didn't guess already, they failed.

Think that is bases for part two and three of trilogy that it could not be destroyed, but had to be taken somewhere. Rats cannot remember exactly how trilogy ends.
