My Mom, I am pretty old and grew up in the days when very few mothers worked outside the home. It was nice.

Yes my mom and dad used to cook for me all the time when I was growing up. I didn't know how to cook until I was about 16 years old.

Yes, Mom sometimes cooked porridge but I didn't like it. I never liked breakfast foods much and the only time I have a real breakfast now is on weekends that I don't work. On those Saturday's I give my daughter breakfast in bed around noon time. I walk into her room with a tray (of bacon, scrambled eggs, toast, fried potatoes and OJ) singing "Happy breakfast to you, happy breakfast to you....".

Yes, I often lived with my grandmother and she fixed breakfast every morning.
My mother, on the other hand, was too lazy to get up early enough to fix breakfast before I went to school. She often didn't move away from the television long enough to fix lunch either. In fact, we were fairly lucky to get dinner reliably, even missing this on numerous occasions.
Today, my wife, because of her own upbringing in a home with a very caring mother, tries to be more like my grandmother than my mother. Of course, with a busy schedule for both of us, that is not always possible.
However, if we had children, that schedule would have to change to allow her plenty of time to be a real mother. Indeed, my own schedule would change to allow more time for the children.

When I was smaller mom cooked alot then I started eating a lot of cereal. When I was 13 I did for myself. I cook breakfast for my kids every morning and guess.....They won't eat it.

Once in a blue moon my Mom or my great grandmother would occasionally cook breakfast. Homemade waffles and bacon and eegs and homemade french toast. That really takes me back......
