Do you think their materials come from their life experiences?

Yes alot of them have so they turned to comedy to atleast vent or laugh about their experiences. I guess I read about a comeidan that it was a form of therapy for him. I found that interesting.

No. For example, Bob Newhart apparently grew up fairly well off, and is considered by comics as one of the best of all time.

a lot of them have had a rough life, but so have tons of people. comics get their material from any and everywhere. tv, life, friends, internet, news......

I think so. Alot of people use comedy or being a class clown to hide problems and insecurities.
