I know for sure that "personalized" custom presents are the best. You just have to pay attention at what your boyfriend likes. If your boyfriend is a musician, you can get him a shirt from his fav band, a rare poster, memorabilia, etc. If your BF likes baseball, try getting him a new glove or a nice and expensive baseball cap, etc. a mix tape on his fave songs is a real cliche but it works.
Or invite him to dinner, prepare his favorite dish, a glass of wine, and then ask him what does he want to do on HIS day...:)
always remember to care about small things, listen to what he says, and you will make him happy.

Cufflinks, maybe. Or get a little neckalace, bracelet, or ring that says boyfriend and then girlfriend for you. Clothes, jewerly, tools. Stuff like that. Or find out what your boy likes then buy him something similar to that.

buy some sexy lingerie from victoria's secret and show up and his house wearing a raincoat and just the sexy lingerie underneath it
knock on his door and when he opens it drop the raibcoat and say HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!!
