Do some research on the Downs Cell. Typically many of the alkali metals, like sodium, and the alkaline earth metals, like magnesium, are made from moltant salts of the metals and an applied heavy amperage current.
Be aware that moltant salt also produces chlorine gas, which is highly poisonous.
In other words, it is much easier to buy small quantities of Sodium from a chemical supply house.

ahhh let me guess you just learned that pure soduim explodes when put in water? well my bio teacher just went over that. and he said that if you need a license and can only buy it in really small amounts, so even if you tryed to make it explode it would be really small in the amounts they give you.
but toothpaste, table salt and other items have soduim in them. but it's chemically changed (toothpaste> sodium flouride)so don't try to get it to explode, it won't work.
guess i actually paid attention in class the other day... wow.

Don't be a jerk. Don't try. If you were qualified you wouldn't be asking the question.
I you do try you will end with burns in your body and burn down your house.
