internet connections?

It's not a daily thing, but still happens to a ridiculous degree...like there will be days when the internet connection goes down. And it will work for less than 5 minutes, then goes down again.

Is it possible that it could be a compatability issue with the computer?

Our computer is around 5 years old. The current modem is the 2nd Comcast modem we've had the problem with, and unfortunately can't afford a new computer right now. So I'm hoping that the compatability issue isn't the case.

I subscribe to Comcast internet service and have a Motorola Surfboard SB4200 cable modem. It has not had any problems since being installed 6 months ago.

Are you sure the modem is your problem?

In a different home I used to have Cablevision, and the internet connection would fail frequently but TV service didn't. I thought it was the modem too and changed it. After many months I tracked the problem down to the cable connection where it enters the house. It was exposed to the outside weather and had corroded. After cleaning the connection and wrapping it with tape to make it water proof, my connectivity was stable.

I have had comcast modem for about five years, never had any problem. it would help to turn the computer off then unplug the modem from power for couple of minutes then plug it in again, that's what they recommend. I remember that's what the person who installed the cable told me at that time, try it.

Modems usually come with two outputs to the computer. If your using the USB connection, try switching to a cat5 connection. I assume you have a network card installed. If you don't you won't be able to go the cat5 patch cable route.

If that doesn't work, call comcast. They should be the ones fixing this, not you.

Yes this tedious work, First make sure you don't have any virusess.

A viruse will certainly slow a computer down. I hope you have Norton.

macafee isn't the best if you do alot of surfing. My nor ton has keep me up and running.

After that is taken care of. Call comcast, I have them too. The will get rid of your cache. Oh and get rid of your cookies.

WHILE ON THE INTERNET GO TO TOOL , INTERNET OPTIONS,

DELETE COOKIES, APPLY OR OK THEN DELETE FILES OFFLINE TOO APPLY , OK ( THIS WILL NOT GET RID OF YOUR FAVORITES)

AFTER COOKIES NOW CALL COMCAST SO THEY CAN FREE YOUR CACHE

The problem must be your computer... some programs affect your connection and they take it down as well... I use Comcast a long time ago and never goes down.

Bye!

It happens to my home computer as well as my computer at work which is Comcast also. I don't know what to do about it other than restart it when it goes down.
