i just installed 1 GB of RAM into my Dell Dimension 2400 computer. As recommended on Dell's website, I bought 1 Gig, PC 3200 400 mhz DIMM RAM, (although I bought Kingston, not dell). I left the factory pc2700 128 Mb module in place and replaced a 128 pc2100 with the new Gig. I turned the computer on and ran BIOS. It said that the RAM speed was 333. I have tried every combination (including taking the factory module out, leaving only the new one) but it still registers 333. What can I do about this? What does this mean?

Well on Dell computers the speed of the RAM is limited by the motherboard. I just looked at the manual for your computer and your motherboard will only run memory as high as 333Mhz. Nothing you can really do about it. Don't feel like you got ripped off though, the 333Mhz would have cost the same.

Max speed that the RAM will go in a Dell Dim 2400 is 333Mhz (PC2700).

Faster RAM will work, but will not exceed the max that that motherboard can run it!
