they both contain adult-ish stuffs but they're of different ratings... what's the point?

R = 18 unless you have a parent or gaurdian
NC-17 = Can't enter the theatre unless your 17....also MC-17 is mostly porn.

As I understand it you can be allowed to enter an R rated film if you are accompanied by an adult; a NC-17 rating means no one 17 and under aloowed for any reason.

NC-!7 means if you're under 17 you can't be admitted even if you're with an adult. R rated means you can get in if you're with someone 17 or older.

NC-17 is more sexually explicit content than rated R

You are not supposed to be admitted to an "R" rated movie unless you are at least 18.
