Big Lots is cheap. I found a good costume there for not a lot of money.

Or, do they like shows? For example, if they like the Disney Channel show Hannah Montana, just get a long, blond wig then put together a stylish outfit. Dollar Tree is also good for supplies like witch hats. Look in different shops for accessories such as robes and face paint. Or just get a max or paint their faces. Simple outfits work good.

During my daughter's middle school years I saw lots of cute, simple ideas at costume parties depending on the exact age of the girls... these are examples:

Housewife: old robe, big fuzzy slippers, pink rollers, frying pan with a "play food" fried egg attached inside to carry as a prop.

Dice: Square box with a hole for head and arms to come out then painted white with black circles on sides to form numbers on each side... especially cute with a pair.

Hippie: typical "hippie" dress but with all the embellishments like round colored, pink for example, sunglasses and beads, headband, sandals and a smiley face button and or/peace symbol necklace.

These are cheap but can be really cute!

well one year I went as a q-tip----and since there are now so many colors its would be easier--have the girls dress in long sleeve shirts and sweats pants--of what ever q-tip---use the web making stuff on the feet and head. Another idea is a pea pod -make round peas out of felt-stuffed with web making stuff and sew them on to an all green sweat pant outfit---sweats are mega cheap and warm when the girls are trick or treating---hope that gets the creative juices flowing---have fun

try looking on www.freecycle.org if you have never been there you will have to join but you can get rid of stuff and also post to look for stuff and its totally free. Or you could go to a second hand store and get an old prom dress and alter it your self to make them a princess. There are alot of idea's out there but you will have to look for something that they are probably into. And at that age it definatly needs to be cool. Good luck

There are tons of ideas out there, use your imagination to take others ideas and make things you have, can make or borrow work. Your biggest challenge will be the girls figuring out what they really want to be! After they change their minds a thousand times of course..lol

pass to a thrift shop or secondhand clothing shop and purchase a used promenade or bridesmaid gown. you need to purchase old rings there and probably even locate the sparkling footwear that look like glass slippers. Do it in improve, as those products sell out rapidly around Halloween.

Dress one girl in purple and the other in green. Get them to help you blow up loads of purple and green balloons. Using safety pins, pin the green balloons to the green clothes and the purple balloons to the purple clothes. Paint the faces to match and you have two adorable pods of grapes!
If you don't have safety pins you can tac (quick sew) them to the clothes. Just don't stick the girls and be careful to pin or sew the part of the balloon that doesn't have air in it!

Let them go through your closet and pick out something to wear. Then you can do the add ons according to what they pick out. I used to let my girls do it. Or take them to the Goodwill and let them pick out something like a wedding dress or prom dress or something.

One of my girls one year wore a pair of miss matched jammies an old robe and slippers. She messed her hair up and threw a couple of curlers in it. She looked like she had just woke up and it was all free.

what are the costumes for? go through your wardrobe & theirs to see what may be able to be used with some adaptations;
when my children were young ( now aged 24-82) I used to do this; oldest one I made a crow(blackbird) using some black shorts & a Tshirt of mine; then crepe paper for wings & cardboard for beak & feet; another time for younger son as a book character; *Jack- from Jack & the beanstalk* white boys shirt; Tshirt over the top; sisters tights;rope belt- really looked the part- I was NEVER prepared to spend money on costumes ; for a witch you could use a black garbage bag- cut holes for neck & arms ; get some black cardboard ( poster board) to make a hat;
cardboard boxes can be use to make robots; look in charity shops for things that could be used- circular shirt;Tshirt; scarf at neck; sneakers(sandshoes) & socks on feet; makes a good rock & roll outfit; or even short straight skirt- if you look at the movie *Grease * that will give you some ideas there
the options are as limitless as your imagination
gypsy type outfit; long flowing skirt; plain shirt; scarves; lots of beads& bracelets ( all things that can be used in your/their wardrobes otherwise) bare feet or sandals
hippie type outfits; colourful pants; mis- matched coloured shirt;beads around neck again; band around head; BIG sunglasses; again bare feet;
western look ;- jeans;checked shirt;bandana around neck; cowboy type hat - again things that can be used in own wardrobe
Aussie Ocker/manual labourer - navy blue short shorts; navy blue singlet; thongs( think you may call them flip flops)- or boots on feet; hankie around neck; tattered hat
use a sheet to make a roman stly toga; piece of cord around waist ; some leaves twined together to make head piece

Cut out a cardboard box to fit like a shirt, color it to look like their favorite cereal -they'd be a box of cereal.
Cut out a cardboard box to fit like a shirt & color is silver, wrap tin foil around arms & legs - they'd be a robot.
Have them put on one of their dress & dress shoes, make a crown out of cardboard paper & design it, put glittery make-up on them - they'd be a princess.
Have them wear black cloths or a black garbage bag, paint their face green, & make a black hat out of constructions paper - they'd be a witch.
Have them wear pjs & slippers, make a bib out of an old shirt, buy a bottle from the dollar store - they'd be a baby
Put them in white jogging pants, & a white pillow case or white garbage sack over them - cut out eye, mouth, & arm holes - they'd be a ghost
