You do if you eat then induce vomiting, or abuse laxatives to loose weight=bulimia. If you abstain from food, and only eat in tiny amounts to the the point of looking like Nicole Ritchie = anorexia. If you obsess over being thin, and think you are not thin enough, you may have a problem. An eating disorder can cause disturbances in your period, especially if you loose a large percent of body fat. Why? The woman's body goes into starvation mode when extreme wight loss occurs, shutting down reproductive functions, because the body isn't healthy enough to function in that manner. The period will resume when body fat levels rise enough to to release hormones again. Female athletes commonly skip periods when training hard, but for the average female this is the body's way of telling you something is wrong. ED is a serious issue, as it affects not only the body, but the mind. Only a MD can diagnose, and treat ED. Due to the emotional aspect of ED, he may suggest anti-depressants when dealing with self image problems. I would like for you to consider professional treatment, if you suspect that you might be suffering from ED. I'd rather know that you are healthy, and happy, not someone who feels that they must harm them self for the so called sake of "beauty". Hugs

There is no one signal to say you have ED, however, if you feel this is something you have seek counsel with your doctor, several things can make your period irregular or stopped all together. Why are you so afraid of going to the Doctor?

The only way to find out if you have an eating disorder is to see a psychologist and/or psychiatrist. Yes, you really need to see one.

And yes, an eating disorder can make you stop menstruating.

You seem to be so hung up on this, do you want to have an eating disorder ? I'm 51, and was anorexic until it nearly killed me. I've since realized that I have to eat to survive. My youngest daughter was bulimec. It's scary. See your doc if you think you have a problem~~
