I would prefer to just fix it myself, but have yet to start disecting it to find out whats wrong with it. All I know right now is that lightning struck and it shut off and now it won't turn on. What are the most likely causes/parts effected to make this happen? Does the surge it experienced leave any physical damage or some way of me to visually tell which parts have been affected when i do disect it to find out whats wrong? I've kinda just been assuming its the motherboard but not sure how to tell if it really is short of buying a new one for a couple hundred and hoping it works (I don't like that option). Thanks for any and all advice.

A power surge by lightening probably cooked your mainboard or at least the power supply hence the "it won't turn on" symptom. If that is true you would probably be better off scrapping it. Power surges will sometime leave scorch or burn marks on the board that took the most power hit. Lightening and electronics is usually fatal for the equipment

Most likely candidates without visual damage would be motherboard or power supply. I would try replacing the power supply first. (I assume you have checked breakers and tried a different outlet.) Could be battery, but not as likely. Then again, it could have fried every single internal component.

If the laptop itself was hit by lightning, then it is probably badly melted and all the components would be permanently destroyed.

If it was damaged by a sugre caused by a nearby lighning strike, then it may be repairable. It would be difficult to guess the nature of the damage, without a description of what happens when you press the button.

it's THE MOTHERBOARD.YOU NEED TO BUY A USED MOTHERBOARD(BECAUSE NEW ONES DO NOT COST CHEAP!)CHECK THE PROCESSOR(IT ALWAYS BURNS WHEN THERE IS TO MUCH ELECTRICITY HITTING THE MOTHERBOARD).

i HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH MY COMPUTER(NOT A LAPTOP.).

If you're lucky, only the power supply is damaged.
If not, well, its fried.
