It's great you are looking that far down the road, but don't forget to look right in front of you. You need to figure out where you want to get your bachelor's degree from. To do this, consider your local state school. It will undoubtedly have a biology program. Plus, it will be cheap once you get in because you'll be paying in state tuition.

Once you do get to school, make sure you are involved in a number of activities, but doing research as an undergraduate is the most important. How do you get involved? Just email a professor from your school's biology department that does interesting research. Human research is preferable if you want to be a doctor, and any type of heart research you find couldn't hurt either. If you can't find a professor doing either type at your school, just about any other type of non-plant research will do.

Another benefit to a state school is that your state probably already has a medical school with a cardiology program. If you get accepted, then your state probably has a tuition assistance program if you agree to work in the state once you have your degree.

Also realize that if you go to any accredited medical school that gives MDs, you will have a rigourus education. Given the high need out there for doctors, choosing an Ivy League medical school might just be a lot of money to pay for name recognition. You will certainly owe a lot of money if you go to med school. Do you really need to owe that much more?

Any top university. Major in chemistry or biology. You have to take all the pre-med requirements, and then you have to apply to med school to become a cardiologist.

Just get into the best undergrad institution possible and worry about medical school later. (The top med schools are Harvard, Stanford, John Hopkins, UCSF.)
