If you live in a large city there is probably an ASPCA or SPCA in your city. Look in the yellow pages, of your telephone directory, or, call directory assistance.
Also, if you are in a large city, there may be a City Shelter for dogs, commonly called a "kill shelter," they KILL dogs if they are not adopted.

Go to the animal pound where they get stray dogs on a regular and ask them can they adopt one. They will show you a whole bunch of dogs and you pick on out.

You have to go to a shelter or look around town on bulletin boards and thats how we found a dog for my friend. But there are probably many other ways I just can't think of them so good luck!!!

Really?! You are looking to adopt a dog like a puppy?! Wow! Why not one like a kitten or like a kangaroo? Or, even better: why not one like a snake? You placed your question under "reptiles", anyway.
