As long as there are no tight kinks or bends in the cord you're fine. You can figure eight it, but my husband always just wraps it in loose loops and hangs it over a wide hook (nothing with a sharp edge).

Erica had a good answer, I also am, was a carpenter, now I am one of those creatures most people want to get off the road, I am 76 wrinkled and worn, but I can still hang up my extension cords by looping them, all the same loop size? You might not be the fussy type so try this, grab the ends put them together, wrap them around your arm, the last loop or two go around all of the cords and pass the loop end through the center, this way you can hang the cord by the end of the loop that is left. A lot of work places use this method, but I don't like it cause I am particular.

Grab one end in your weak hand and use your strong hand to start looping it between your hand and your elbow. Straighten the cord as you coil it. When you get to the end take it off your arm and wrap the last 2 ft or so around the middle of the coil, cinching it tight as you wrap. When there is not enough left to go once more around, bring the tail up to the top and plug it into itself.
