I'm not sure of the exact list, but I know that Michigan has the highest unemployment rate along with one of the highest rates of inflation in the country. It seems to me that the other four states would be northern states, whose economy depends on manufactuing jobs. Jobs that have left the area and are now located in Mexico and southeast Asia.

I can testify to Michigan being one of the worst. There are just no good paying jobs left here, they all went to Mexico. If you want to help buy a new car.

Any list that didn't include Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, West Virginia, and Kentucky would seem incomplete to me.
