People live vicariously through their teams. It is as if they are the ones out there playing. A lot of people bet on games and if they bet on the wrong team it may adversely affect them financially.

Well, for me its a place to escape what's happening around me. To watch the evening news and see shootings, and crooked politicans makes me sick to my stomach.
In sports, its simple. There is a good guy (us) vs bad guys (them) and there is a finality to the game. One team/person wins, the others lose.

i would say it has to be a pride thing.

i guess it carries over to the sports world.
i know people are raised to be proud of where they are from and have pride in it.my little girl is a cheerleader in our local youth sports (she is 8)even she has learned to be competitive and proud when they win.the louder she cheers the better the team does(so she is taught).it is the competive side of people.it is in all of us.

I COMPLETELY agree! It acually ruins peoples day-or week- if whoever they are rooting for loses. Its crazy! AND why do some athletes and movie stars-who do what they do for our entertainment ONLY make more then the leaders of our country?!?!
