i had my last period on august 28 and 3 weeks later i was spotting with light cramping.. i heard that spotting in a brownish color can be one of the first signs of pregnancy.. and with my self being sexually active i assumed that i may be pregnant so i took a hpt test on september24 and got a negative result.. i still assumed i may be pregnant so when i missed my period i retested on october 3 and once again got a negative result.. and then today october 8 i once again began spotting and again it was light brown in color.. does anyone know what this may mean...

Any thing brown is old blood. I would go to the doctors just to be on the safe side.

Hi there,

I get the same thing. In fact, i am spotting today. It's weird I know and i have asked the doc about it before and she said that is was just old blood coming out from your previous period. I am on the pill and NOT pregnant so I don't think that theory is entirely true...
also if you have a small pelvic structure or shoud i say 'if he hit's your cervix during sex' this can also cause spotting as it sort of tears your cervix.
What i wouls suggest is go and see your doc, talk to him/her about it and get a STD test just to be on the safe side (This can also cause these symptoms).

I hope i've helped, good luck.

You should see a doctor. May need to get on birth control just to regulate the period so that it clean you out regularly.

I had a similar problem and turns out that I had a mass of tissue because it was not being flushed by the period because I was not getting one.

I got on the "ring" and it regulated me but then I stopped because I heard that the ring was causing problems. I am going back to not being regular and I made an appt to see my doc to discuss other options.

Good Luck

Were you recently on birth control? Sometimes it takes months to get over the effect of birth control. Also, if I am not mistaken, there is an STD that causes something like this. I am not positive, but I had a friend have something similar and she had clamydia. (I think tha is spelled right) If this was me, I would call my doctor, just to be safe.

Depending your age, this could be early signs of menopause. Also, On Monday Oprah's guest (OBGYN) is discussing this type of issue you are dealing with. But the best thing to do is to have an annual checkup with your OBGYN and request that your hormone levels be tested to see if you are going through the early states of menopause. And last, please go to your local library and get the book, Our Bodies, Ourselves! This is EXCELLENT!!! GOOD luck if you want a child!!

My sister had the same thing happen she was not pregnant, she just didn't ovulate that month(according to her doc.) It depends upon age, your body changes as you get into your late 30's, but It could be something more I would definitely make an ob appointment to be on the safe side.

are you on any kind of birth control pills or have you recently gotten off of birth control? Sounds like old blood in your body being removed. That happened to be when I got off the depo shot.

I'd say that your best bet is to make an appointment and see your Dr. They can determine if you, in fact, are pregnant or if you might have some kind of infection going on.

1. it could be your body cleaning itself out
2. it could be implantation bleeding
go to the doctor and get an internal exam, reliable and cheaper than blood testing.
* not all women get a correct result from a home preg. test because their level of hormone is not strong enough

see a doctor, something is going on and if the test keep saying negative you could have an infection.
