The laws vary from state to state. How about driving the speed limit?

.. it does vary by state. alot of cruisers have radar detector "detectors" also and the good radar detectors defeat that. i love mine and dont leave home without it ... even if you drive the limit and flow with traffic it keeps you from doing that stupid pass at 110mph at the wrong moment. they arnt fool-proof though and the cops that hide in the bushes with the lazer guns will get you if they dont get greedy lol ... stomp on the breaks anyway if you hear the lazer signal coz 9 times out of 10 they will tag you several times trying to get a higher speed ... so mash on the breaks ... they cant give you a ticket for seeing the nose of your car dive.

United States law varies from state to state, but detectors are generally legal in private vehicles under the Communications Act of 1934[2] and illegal in commercial vehicles by DOT regulation (49 CFR 392.71). Exceptions:

* Illegal in all vehicles: Virginia, Washington D.C., Carlsbad Caverns National Park, U.S. military bases
* Illegal in commercial vehicles under state law: Illinois, New York (specifically, commercial vehicles over 10,000 lb. and all vehicles over 18,000 lb.)
* Indirectly illegal: Minnesota and California (illegal to hang anything from the windshield).
* Repealed: Connecticut (repealed in 1998)

each state has it own rules regarding whether or not they are legal..you can check the state you will be using it in by website, I would try the dept. of transportation website for the states you will be in.

Every state is different. They're illegal in some but not in others.
