How did my little mouse die?

Well we were just coming back from a four-wheeler ride with my brother, and i walking up to my house and i found a the cutest little mouse, barely breathing on more doorstep, most likely left to die by my cat. He was just a baby mouse. Anyways i took him in and put some warm water on him to hopefully wake him up, then i put him in a container, but of course i didn't close the lid. He started to breath, and even shake a little bit. I thought for sure he was getting better. I had him for about 4 hours then i put him outside, and when i got to him a hour later, and he died. How could he have died?

If your cat had left him on the steps he probably had some type of internal injuries from being biten or too he had a heart attack and died. or also maybe your cat didnt leave him there and he was sick to begin with and it finally took over. Anyway even tho the little mouse was cute and all do you know that thier pee once dried and mixed in with dust and all and breathed in you could die or become very sick. They are cute but carry alot of germs. If you find any more please dont try and keep it. If anything put it in a jar and release it in a field far away from your house or any farms where there is grains. another thing you said you had the mouse for four hours and then put it outside for an hour , thats 5 hours that the mouse hadnt eaten and drank anything unless you feed it.
