Multiply through by 8 to get rid of the fractions:

2(7+3g) = -g

Distribute:

14 + 6g = -g

Isolate g on one side, everything else on the other:

6g + g = -14

Combine like terms:

7g = -14

Divide:

g = -2.

1/4 (7 + 3g) = - g/8

2(7 + 3g) = - g

14 + 6g = -g

- 7g = 14

g = -2

1/4(7+3g) = -g/8
multiply both parts by 4, then we have:
7+3g = -g/2
subtract both parts by 7, then we have:
3g = -g/2 - 7
add both parts by g/2, then we have:
3g + g/2 = -7
for the first part, get the common denominator , which is 2:
(6g+g)/2 = -7
7g/2 = -7
multiply both parts by 2, then we have:
7g = -14
divide both parts by 7, we finally have:

g = -2
