Foley started out as a Democrat at age 23 and switched parties later for advancement, not for ideology. As a Republican, he was unopposed in 1998, although it was pretty well established as early as 1996 that he was gay. Did the Democrats miss the boat?

Well it was the Florida voters' fault for electing him. But we know that Floridians are terrible voters from the 2000 debacle. Honestly, the voters werent aware that Foley was gay or a pedophile when they voted for him. The House Republican leadership however did know about this for at least 3 years and did nothing to control him or force him to step down. They left him in charge of a committee on exploited children. The House Republicans are not hypocritical they are sick.

Who says somewhat's at "fault" for the fact that he was elected to office? The voters did not know he was gay or that he was a pedophile. Is somewhat at "fault" for not knowing?

Chalk that one up to political correctness. Foley was gay and it is not politically correct to consider that in voting.
