Goldfish need to be a male and female to spawn.... if there is no male to spawn with, then the eggs will be re-absorbed and passed with the feces.

While you can get spawning media, or use heavy plants and remove the parents both after spawning, you really do need a male to fertilize eggs and spawning can be a bit rough with goldfish. Spawning can also upset the water parameters and cause ammonia spikes. There needs to be a 50% water change done right after spawning, and again the next day.

It takes 3 day's or more for the eggs to hatch and some will not, some will not be fertilized and should be removed if they develope fungus.

Saw this question by accident, fish aren´t really my expertise. This might be a really stupid remark, but I always thought that with fish the eggs were fertilised by the male after the female laid them. So taking putting her in another tank will mean the eggs will go to waste.

Surely, you seperate
the pregnant gold fish
and put it in some other
small tank. The other
fish may eat away her
eggs.

The tank has to be small
-may be 2' x 2' and the
depth should not be more
than 1.5'. You would be
able to see the eggs
with your own eyes. Such
tanks are known as Nursery
Tanks.

Yes, there is a special plastic tank that the eggs fall to the bottom to protect them from the mother also.

You need to buy a "nursery" for your acquarium. When the babies are born, they will drop down into the nursery and the other fish INCLUDING the mother won't eat them. You can buy them inexpensively at Walmart or a Fish/Pet store.
