Hair dye, bleach, perms and relaxing solutions are all absorbed into the bloodstream to some degree however very minimal. There is no information on having hair treatments during breastfeeding. It is highly unlikely that a significant amount would enter the breast milk because so little enters the mom's bloodstream. Many women receive hair treatments while breastfeeding, and there are no known reports of negative outcomes

You can dye your hair while pregnant or breastfeeding. I have actually done both with no ill effects. If you are concerned, you always have the option of expressing your milk by hand or with a pump after you color your hair and getting rid of the milk. As a nursing mom, I know how precious our milk is, but I have had to "pump and dump" on a few occasions because of migraine medications or a few cocktails at a wedding and I knew it was the safest thing for the baby in the long run.

The studies that have been done suggest it is safe to dye your hair while pregnant or breastfeeding. You should not worry.

When I was breastfeeding, my doctor said that it was ok to dye/perm my hair. That the chemicals don't stay on the skin long enough to have too much of them absorbed into the bloodstream.

Yes, it's safe. You can actually dye your hair while pregnant now a days too. You just want to be careful that you don't get too sick from the fumes, they can cause dizziness and nausea.

I was breast feeding when I colored my hair. And my baby is just fine. She is very healthy, it never hurt her. I did ask my doctor before I done it to make sure and she told me that it would not do any thing to the milk. But if you are afraid that it might get into the milk and hurt your baby then maybe you should ask your doctor.
