PC Game-The Abyss: Incident at Europa-Help Please?

Question

My son has been playing the PC game The Abyss: Incident at Europa, but is having problems. We've gotten the walkthroughs, but having a problem figuring out what key to press to put down the metal plates where the sparks are coming from.

Does anyone know?

The metal plates I'm talking about are the three mental plates picked up while walking around DeepCore. Part of the hallway has electrical sparking so you can't walk over it. That's where the metal plates grates come in. They are placed over the panels, but we can't figure out how to put them down.

If you've played the game, then you probably know what I'm talking about. It's in the first part of the game.
