what is the electron configuration (short form) and number of unpaired electrons of 34Se? and how did you get it?

I won't tell you the answer ya cheater ;) but I will help you, I am in Chemistry too. sorry if my explanation doesn't make sense.

1. Se is in the 4th level, so everything up until that is complete (1s^2, 2s^2, 2p^6 and so on...)
2. Remember this: once you get to the 3 level orbitals things get tricky because it goes from 3p to 4s and then back to 3d.
3. Now look at the Periodic chart. Go to the 4th row. The two 4s electron are the first two boxes, then 3d electrons are the next ten, and the next 6 are the 4p's. Since four of the "4p" boxes are "filled", that makes it 4p^4
