Try this:

1/4X + 4/9=5/6 multiply both sides by 4 you get
x + 4/9 = 5/6 (times) 4 then subtract 4/9 on both sides
X= 5/6 (times)4 - 4/9

First you have to make the denominators all be the same. The lowest common denominator for these number is 36. Then you have to change your numerators (the top numbers) so that it still equals the same amount, just over 36.

9/36x + 16/36 = 30/36

then you subtract 16/36 from both sides

9/36x = 14/36

you can multiply both sides by 36 to get rid of your denominator as well.

9x= 14

then you can divide 9 from both sides

x= 14/9 or 1 5/9 or 1.55555555-> whichever way your teacher wants you to put it.

First, multiply both sides by 4 to get rid of the 1/4 in front of the x. Then move all of the constants to one side of the equation, and the x to the other.

you have to subtract 4/9 from both sides of the equation and then divide both sides by 1/4. You have to do the opposite operation to isolate X and get your answer.

you can't get much more basic than solving for a single variable... just remember: whatever you do to the left, you must do to the right. What do you need to do to both sides of the equation to get the term 1/4x by itself? Then, what do you need to do to both sides of the equation to get the X by itself? Take it step by step. If you're having difficulty because you're dealing with fractions, you may want to ask your teacher for additional help or to hook you up with a tutor. By the time you get to algebra, dealing with fractions should not be an issue any longer.
