I used to when I did that for a living. I dreamt one night that everytime somebody ordered a drink I had to drive to K-Mart to go and get it.
I also had the dream where the section I was working in was huge and I was in the weeds the whole time.

I too have had dreams/nightmares about waiting tables back when I was a waiter.

The interesting thing is when you remember out of nowhere, oh that guest needed another refill, or a side of ketchup. But don't worry they do go away with time. I have always tried to approach it this way. If a guest's food comes out wrong, or isn't perfect; while I will do everything that I can to make things better, to make sure they enjoy themselves...

At the end of the day, if their food being cold, not getting ketchup, etc, is the worst thing that happened to them all day.. then they had a pretty good day.

Most definitely! I've worked in restaurants for 15 years, and it's never really lessened. I find that it is the worst on nights that I make A LOT of eye contact. If you are slightly good at your job, you can categorically remember everything that people eat or drink at the end of the night, so yes... your brain replays them in your sleep.

You know the worst part? When you're waiting on those tables in your dreams, and you can't catch up with everything, and those wretched greeters keep seating you, and the bussers aren't getting the tables clean... you WAKE UP EXHAUSTED! I always find that I get the dreams after a double when I have to wake up and open the next morning... the night I need the most sleep, and it's the most exhausting sleep of all.

You're not alone! :) We all dream out that stress... and it is stressful if you take your job serious enough to make a living at it.

Best remedy? Have a light drink, or a small meal before bed and do something else - like read, watch TV or answer to Yahoo Answers :) before bedtime - it diverts your thoughts away from the hourde of hungry pissed off people you dealth with through the evening.

Good luck!

Rob

When I waited tables full time and was in college I used to have constant nightmares about work. I would come home about 4am and sleep until 8 to go back to work. The whole night I would have crazy dreams about waiting tables and screwing up. It made going to work the next day harder than it should have been!

I have that dream of where I am waitering naked and my Johnson keeps falling in the the soup. My tips were great that day, I always knew if the soup was too hot to eat and would warn the patron before they burned their mouth.

The nightmare is when some busty young lady gets burned when the tip tips the bowl over.

It's been 20 years since I worked for UPS. The nightmares have gradually lessened--thank GOD--but I still have 2 or 3 a month!

Definitely. It is a stressful job, and so demanding. Tiny little things can just ruin a day...or a week! Once I had a job that I was working double shifts at. Then I started dreaming that they set up a bedroom for me in the cooler.

Yes I have had the dreams too. But somehow lately I realize I'm dreaming and I just walk out. I always wake up about that time so I think my brain is trying to wake me up to save me from dreaming about work.

Yeah, I'll have dreams that every server calls in sick in the whole restaurant but me (there are 54 tables in my restaurant) and the hostess fills up the WHOLE restaurant and I can't get salads and bread out fast enough. That's gotta be the worst!

You are taking your job home with you! Eat a good meal before you leave work and relax and take a hot bath and relax at home and I bet you see a differance! The key is to leave work at work!
This worked for me when I was a waiter!
