I am 16 weeks pregnant with my third child. I know every pregnancy is different, but I have major headaches and nothing helps. I also am craving salt. I have to put it on everything that I eat. Also I am thirsty a lot. I have a doctors appointment this week, and I was wondering if these things put together, or seperate are symptoms of something else that could be wrong? If anyone has had any of these, and they were symptoms of something serious, please tell me what it was so I can talk to my doctor about it. Thanks!

I'm sorry to hear you aren't feeling well. I just got over the sickness, and this is my 9th pregnancy with never having had morning sickness before!! LOL!!! I saw a midwife for awhile who recommended a rice sock for those headaches. Have you tried that? Put 3cups rice (not instant) in a sock and heat in the microwave for 2 minutes or so. Put this on your head/neck. It did help me, but...don't keep it say, under your neck or head when you go to sleep. I tried this once and it made me overheated and sick!
Being thirsty can be a sign of dehydration actually, though it is much better than not being thirsty at all, which can signify severe dehydration. Be cautios with the salt, as too much can contribute to swelling and issues with that...preeclampsia.

I'm no doctor, but I can speak from experience with my last 2 pregnancies, and this one is starting to go this way, that being thirsty and the headaches are signs of dehydration in me. I wasn't having them until recently. I want hot cinnimon gum to chew a lot, though not stuff to drink, and have headaches a lot.

Just bring these questions up to your doctor...better safe than sorry!! If it's dehydration, you'll either have to drink a bunch more, or end up like I have several times...in the hospital with an IV in your arm. UGH!!

Good luck, and congrats!!

Its a little too early for diabetes or pre eclampsia but you should discuss all options with your doc as we dont screen for these till 26-28 weeks

Ask for a blood test checking electrolytes, liver function, thyroid, full blood picture as well just to make sure. Even a referal to a neurologist if things are bad may help answer some questions.

Is your neck or back out, maybe see a chiropractor and have this all checked as well.
Sucky as it sounds many women come into my rooms with the same, and there is little we can do for some of them... Just fluids simple analgesia and rest

Headaches are very common during pregnancy and should diminish as you go along. Call it you're own personal version of morning sickness. As for the salt/water craving that is particularly concerning to me and you should be certain to contact your doctor in the morning. These can be signs of complications and they can also mess with your blood pressure.

First of all salt makes you thirsty. Second don't use a lot of salt because it makes you retain water. You don't want to retain any more water then you have to. That's what makes you swell. You shouldn't drink a lot of caffeine but my doc said that if I get a headache to take 2 Tylenol with a caffeine drink and that should help. Congrats on your baby!

Oh I had horrible headaches with my 2nd child, and they actually got so bad I was missing work. My doctor put me on some meds to help with the headaches and it worked, but they also mad me tired. The headaches did go away in my 3rd trimester....good luck, by the way you can take regular Tylenol for them.

i have had all three of them.i started getting headaches around 2and half months and had them all the way up to around 5 months.i was mad for salt it lasted awhile but around 7 months is eased off,i still like to have it but not as much now and the thirst isnt everyday but i still get it most days.to much salt isnt good so try your best to cut it down if possible, easier said then done i know...but if you can try.its nothing to worry about .its normal for most to have those type of things happen with them, well people whom i know anyways.talk to your doctor about it,there isnt much of anything he/she can do for you but they will talk to you about it and should be able to be more helpful....good luck!!
