1. Distributive property. multiply 4 by everything on the left side and -10 by everything on the right
8a-4=-10a+50
2. Subtract 8a from both sides so all your variables are on one side of the equation
-4=-18a+50

add -10a to 8a
18a+4=50
subtract 4
18a=46
divide by 18 on both sides
a=23/9(answer as a fraction)or 2.5 repeating decimal or 2.6
