Japan, Germany, Korea all have US bases, US soldiers are like malaria, once you've got it it's there for life.
Plus, the US doesn't have enough troops to do the job in Afghanistan (with NATO help) and Iraq (with UK help), never mind trying to conquer anywhere else. Dream on.

Japan would be the best example. We occupied Japan after the war ,supported her until Japan could walk again then gave her back to the people.Same with the Philippines ,france Germany, and Italy.I see no American flag flying above their capitols. There will be none above Iraq or any mideast country.

if the US had the desire to occupy the rest of the world, it could do so.
Plenty of people in areas where US now acts are sitting on the fence because they fear the US will be gone in a year or so- like they did in Vietnam, Somalia, etc. Why risk a life for a few months of freedom?

We do not want to occupy other nations. Only exist in ours. If there were no terrorists or nations that harbor them, we would have no need to leave the country. Your point is another painful use of logic that makes liberals look clueless.

We want to be seen as liberators not as an occupying force. Win hearts and minds first then win their territory and natural resources later.
