Careful now.. mechanics are real people just like everyone else... and just like everyone they too can make a mistake... take the car back to them... any reputable place will fix it and not charge for a mistake they made, and if they don't, then you know where not to take your car to anymore.

I am not certain on the legal implications, but I don't think you would get in too much trouble for stopping payment on the check. I would call the mechanic immediately and tell them that either they must take the car back and fix it correctly for no additional charge, or you will stop payment. The other thing I do know for fact that a lot of people don't realize is that if a mechanic tells you that work is needed in addition to what they quoted you, you must approve it before they can do it. If they ever tell you "Oh, and it needed this, too, so we went ahead and did it" you don't have to pay for the additional work. I also, before I started fixing my own cars, would insist on getting all the old parts back with the car. Then you'll have better odds of actually getting the work done. My last recommendation I have is to get a repair manual, like a Chilton's or Hayne's manual and research the problem before the mechanic even sees it. That way, if they try to BS you and tell you that you need additional things done that you don't really need, you will more likely be wise to it and say not before they get you to approve things you don't really need. I know that not all mechanics are cheats and liars, but I have encountered a few myself, and these are a few ways to make it harder for them to cheat you. Good Luck!

Go talk to the mechanic, tell him the problem. Is there a manager or owner you could talk to? Is it exactly the same problem? Or is it an additional problem. Is this a small shop, or a chain? I would think you would have a 30 day or some type of warranty, if not, change mechanics. Has this happened before? If so, how did you solve that? If he blows you off and will not fix the car properly, and you still have time, stop the check, and report him to the better business bureau.

If it is for the SAME problem, courtesy would be to not charge you again. If you stop payment, your relationship with him will be antagonistic, and he will never work on your car again. Try to resolve the issue without stopping payment first. Keep all documentation in case you need to go to small claims court. If you really feel you have been ripped of, contact your local BBB, they MIGHT be able to help you, but often they have a conflict of interest being that they get funding from the very people complaints are brought against hence small claims court.

Being a mechanic my self I can say yes and now.
Here is why.
If he fixed the car 2 times and it was not fixed you have a right to confront him about it, but not stop your check.
He did pay for parts and did do labor.
The best thing to do is take him to small claims court and confront him with this.
I am not a judge, but the judge will make that .
On the other hand you did give him more time to fix your car right. You can claim that you gave him more then eneff time to fix it. So you feel that you payed for nothing and thus feel you were taken.

I had a missfire on my car like three weeks ago. i took it to like 5 mechanics and the ford agency on 2 of them they told me to take it back if the car still had the missfire and they wouldnt charge me a thing which they eventually did and did not let me take the car after i paid them. They threatened to call the cops on me. Well i paid them and now where do I go for all my mechanical problems here to yahoo answers if you explain your problem in detail what is wrong with the car you get good answerers ask the question like 2 or 3 times in diffferent words and if you get the same answer thier is your problem. After you know the problem with the car then take it to a mechanic and tell him what he needs to change make sure to buy your own parts too that way you know what quality of parts your using and what is only going to be done to the car. Also try going to autozone or advance auto parts to get the codes on the car if the check engine light is on and thn aske in here yahoo answers what the code means and bammmmm thier is your problem.
