There are basically two options.
1. Vote third parties, such as Independent, Green or Libertarian. The problem is unless there is a concerted effort to win those positions it is not a practical use of your vote.
2. Always vote against the incumbents. This would be easier to organize and implement then getting third party candidates to win.
Of the 2 options the second is easier to get people behind and out to implement. But only by electing third parties to congress will we be able to effect permanent change in the system.
But the only way the third parties will become viable is through major campaign reform setting realistic spending caps since the Democrats and Republicans have a stranglehold on the money of the special interest groups, lobbyists and corporations.

Very good question. I personally think our elections would be more effective if every vote was counted, not just according to how many votes are scored per delegate based on each state's population. In the past 12 years, the Republicans have created the biggest mess in our country's history. The 20 preceding years, the Democrats didn't do much better. We must inform ourselves about the candidates and not believe b.s.

You are correct: Politicians are far more interested in whats BEST for there PARTY than they are for Whats best for America anymore. As for your vote. All you can do is choose the person that closely represents your views. We have an election coming up soon. And there are several issues that do divide the parties enough to give you at least on the surface a Clear choice. Research the candidates that represent your area and vote accordingly.

Jane I think I know your point.
Look it is very simple really, we have a corrupted system in congress, the will of the people is circumvented consistently and we will not be able to fix it until we eliminate career politicians in congress. I believe you know this and we are not going to be successful with third parties until this is fixed. Representation today is for the big union money, big lawyer/lobbyist money, big healthcare insurers money.
My thinking is, if we can keep kicking out mulit-term careerists for about three to five elections we might have some people in congress who will represent us, then we might get financing of elections fixed and term limits on congress. Until we accomplish this we are to some degree without hope.
I will personally vote for the new guy if he is running against a careerist unless he is a public advocate of socialism. I will do this the rest of my days until we once again have a congress that represents we the people.
Will you join me in taking back control of our country and vote for the new person, the one that is not already corrupted by the halls of congress and the cesspool of Washington.
“If a legislator is "safe" from competition, or if he represents groups with the same economic and political beliefs, he does not have to change his ideas or respond to the needs of the broader population. He can rest content with a mediocre, absentee performance knowing he will be returned to office. And as he is returned year after year the seniority system gives him immense control over people from other parts of the country whose views he need not heed at all.” -Senator Edward M. Kennedy, Decisions for a Decade

Neddie called you Un-American,LOL.. I agree with you to a point. Both sides have a tendency to tell you whatever you want to hear, and still do what they want.It makes me laugh when I hear Liberals talk up Hillary on here thinking she's going to bring all of the troops home and live hapily ever after. Not going to happen. Our troops are going to be in the middle east engaged in some kind of battle for the next 10 years at least, no matter who's President, and no matter what they campaign on. Say what you want about Bush, we havent been attacked in over 5 years now.

you may no longer deny on the checklist statements and at an identical time as supporters will attempt to color this as a metamorphosis of coronary heart appropriate to the situation in line along with his cutting-edge statements, his background of statements in help are easy. the present plan is in easy terms a covert course to a single payer gadget which will evolve over the years. Obama is familiar with this as do contributors of Congress who've reported as plenty, however the truthful will stick to none the less and then cry foul while the inevitable and totally predicted result's produced. Obama counts on people refusing to scrupulously learn the great image. thankfully many have chosen to no longer blindly stick to. for people who do there is not any desire because of the fact whether he stood and suggested "confident i desire a single payer gadget" back the following day the followers could pay no heed to the words or their effect.

Your vote counts as "public opinion" and I agree with you question.
To make effective change, citizens need to join in Government service, and stay away from the corporate interests.

Vote your conscience and start voting for term limits on the state and national level. For Congress... it didn't take Lindsay Graham long to figure out that if you are in you are probably there for life.

Our votes DON'T count. Remember the mess in Florida, 2000? Remember the Supreme Court declaring that it is better to not find out who won than to find out?

Bothe parties are full of it to a degree. What matters is how you live your life, not what they say and do. Their words are only marketing tools to get other involved with them. In the end, money is their only drive.
And anyone who says you have an un-American attitude, have clearly bought into the lies of the marketing business of American Politics.
