There's a big contest for best holloween contest. I plan on making my own, so nothing that would be too expensive. Pleas egive me some strange and unique ideas!

I had a friend that once went as a vending machine. He got a big box, cut out holes for his arms, legs, and head, and painted it to look like a vending machine.
If you want unique ideas, stay away from the basics like being a cat or an angel. Easy costumes yes, but probably won't win the contest.

The grim reaper.
You just need a big black sheet, a bamboo pole (or a long stick of any kind) and hard material that can be cut easily (cardboard, foam boards etc).
Wrap the black sheet over your head like a hood and either keep it up or pull down over your back.
Cut a curve blade from the cardboard and attach it to the stick and spray the stick black.
Angel.
Use a white cloth to act as a toga dress (it works for male and females!)
Bend some wire to the shape of wings (they don't have to be big. about 1 foot each) and sew white cloth over them. You can either add feathers or not.
use gold or silver christmas tinsel as your halo.
Greek god/godness/hero
drap white cloth over body like the toga for the angel.
wear sandals.
attach(glue,staple,pin, however) green leaves to a string for olive crown.

I was at a halloween party last year female dressed as a nurse and male dressed as a mammogram machine made from a huge box with 2 openings for his hands and had free mammograms written on box. They won 1st place

Be a cowgirl riding a horse, or princess unicorn, you can make a costume with horse legs and add two fake leggs and the butt park coming out of the back.

I saw a kid once that was a spider web and had a big spider hat on....He had like a black swet suit on and behind him he had a big purple/white web with wire framing and cont. the pattern on the front...It was a really cool effect...
