The key is to find a good one. Some of them are disgusting and, as you indicated, a rip off. I have to use one because my basement floods and I can't afford to keep buying new washers and dryers every time it happens (no room upstairs either.) Fortunately, though, I have a GOOD laundromat near my house. It's kept very clean, the dryers always work (i.e. get hot) or else they take them out of commission and fix them quickly. They are also reasonably priced....for a single person like me, I would have to do laundry for many, many years to justify the cost of a W&D in my house.

So in short....keep looking until you find a good one. They ARE out there....just hard to find.

By the way, Chris D.....there is one here in my town that actually DOES serve beer, and has live bands sometimes, too !

Not, fun. The first couple of years of our marriage we did not have a washer and dryer so the laundromat was a weekly endeavor. On a few occasions my husband would help out and the only way he could get through it was to go to the laundromat that was down the street from a Mexican Restaurant and we would throw the clothes in then enjoy a Margarita, put them in the dryer and another Margarita... you get the picture.

You have a very bad attitude. Figure out what it would cost you to do laundry at home. Include the cost of water, electric, soap, etc. You would see it is not too much different and it is twice as fast to do wash at the laundromat. Is your time worth anything?

The person that owns the laundromat has to pay all the overhead. When you figure in what that entails, the cost passed on to you, the user of the facilities is not too bad.

If this bothers you I hope nothing important ever hits you in the head.

the worst1 it is the one place that you do have to "air your dirty laundry" in front of the world. When I went there I knew everyone saw all my personal clothing which I would not normally be showing. OH how thankful I was to finally buy my own washer and dryer

I use a laundromat and I don't have any problems. The dryers are free as long as you wash there and there are different sized washers that cost different amounts.

Huh. I haven't had that problem. We have our own W/D, but quilts and comforters have to be taken to the laundromat. Costs
me about $6 to wash and dry them each. I just take a book with me and my walkman.
