If you mean the weather Canary Islands is the best except December to February quite windy. Crete is beautiful and warm until late October and starting April. Southern Portugal/Spain until late September and starting late April.

As for the cities
Prague, Barcelona always the best.
London, Dublin, Amsterdam, Paris, Copenhagen, Helsinki, Berlin always worth while

For Autumn I would go somewhere with leafy woods - like Poland (for example the last remaining piece of medieval forest in Europe, which is Bialowieska Forest). Alps, Herz mountains in Germany, these places would look nice in Autumn, but also in Winter. Switzerland and Austria are probably most interesting, as they have mountains, forests, but also are wine producing regions and have many wine feasts in Autumn.

It depends what sort of holiday you want. If you want loud and raucous I would say head to one of the Greek islands. If on the other hand you want something romantic and peaceful head to the Lake District, it was fab. Curling up in front of an open fire and lots of hill walking in the days. The lakes are also beautiful and peaceful. In the evenings you can just get slowly sozzled on red wine. Ideal.

St. Petersburg is totally gorgeous in winter. Bit nippy though.

Malta. It's out of season, and therefore cheaper, but the weather is good and there is much of interest to see and do.
