I've seen this movie dozens of times with my kids... he sleeps upstairs in a loft in the first one.

In the first one (I hope you mean Charlie and the Chocolate Factory) there is no 'upstairs'. They basically live in a shack. So he sleeps downstairs (on the floor even, he doesn't have a bed).

Charlie does sleep upstairs. If you remember, he is looking down stairs as they announce on the t.v. that the last golden ticket was found. As you find out later, it was not true.

In the first one I have to agree, it was a dated movie and only had one level as I recall! You could try to google it for a more accurate answer. Peace!

unless there was a deleted scene that i am not aware of then you never see where he sleeps in the first movie.

they r poor and dont have a 2nd floor so he sleeps on the 1st floor and shares a bed with his grandpa.
