And people fought for what they believed in. I mean, they might have went about it the wrong way but they were at least doing something. I'm in high school still yet and I know quite a few people who couldn't tell you who our vice president is which I think is pretty pathetic.

What do you think?

I was there. Peace was the word of the 60's.Just watch the story on the Woodstock concert. Peace. And compare the first with the updated one. Violence. When out in public in the 60's? You could walk down the street and look someone in the eye and say hello to anyone and everyone. It was a time you felt safe to walk on the streets. Can't do that today. Everyone gives dirty looks, the cut eye, etc. Was a hippie and a proud one. You will fine that every generation will go about things the wrong way. I think today's crime rate is more pathetic then some people who can't name their vice president's. Crime rate was not high in the 60's. And we all new the names of our politicians.
Good luck with your answers and enjoy the rest of your holiday weekend.

Hate to sound like my maman, but yes, I agree. Things were different, there was a passion in people's minds that doesn't exist in the 'whatever' crowd. People cared passionately about things that don't even seem to matter any more. Even my generation (Class of 73) hasn't kept its ideals or activism. I'm sorry to say it, but you are right.

A lot of those people "fighting for what they believed in" were drafted to do so.

And yes a lot of people are too self-absorbed to worry about what is happening in the world. You'll find that true of every decade.

Every period of time in history has it's devotees and critics.
