It is a holdover from the days when the churches had more control over us.

They wanted stores closed on the Christian sabbath.

The laws enforcing Sunday closings were called Blue Laws.

Things are getting better now -- more and more businesses are realizing that the God-squad doesn't have as much power as it used to.

Except in some red states, that is.

When I was a child it was the law that a store NOT be open on Sunday's. It was the Sabbath and a day of rest and worship.

Of course this was before political correctness.

Today many small businesses close for the same reason, and also because Sunday is the slowest business day.

A link below goes into some detail about this topic.

This is from an old custom. Sunday was a day of rest. This gave the employees from the shops a chance to go to services (if they wanted to) and to spend time with families.

Where I live (in NE Ohio), quite a few shops are open. The hours are limited, usually 11-5 or 12-5. They are open and people shop.

I was just at an outlet mall in southwestern Ohio. The outlet shops were all open and crowded with customers.

I guess it depends upon where you live and where you shop.

In the bible it says Sunday is a day of rest so the people that work at those stores have the day off to rest and/or go to church on Sundays.

It all goes back to the bible. Snday is the day of rest. So no work. It has been like this since time immemorable and I think it will continue to be like that.

However, I do agree. There will be more business if they open on Sundays when there are more people outside instead of working.

It's a day of rest, for most religions. It's a day to spend with your family. It's a day to not be materialistic. And everyone needs a day off. Do YOU want to work on Sunday?

Sunday is the Sabbath. It's a day of worship and rest. Also a lot of the stores owners and shoppers are in worship services.

aren't you glad you get to rest at least once a week?.. see, how you get to rest on sundays, the people that work in that stores get to rest also. in ancient times (religiously speaking) the sabbath was respected, no one did anything such as work, or partying. sabbath was originally saturday, but with time it transitioned to sunday being the "resting day"
