According to Eric Ericson there are 10 Stages or Phases of the Human Life Cycle. These are:
1. Infancy (Birth to 18 mos.)
2. Early Childhood (18 mos. to 3 years)
3. Late Childhood (3 to 5 years)
4. Juvenile Period (6 to 12 years)
5. Adolescence (13 to 18 years)
6. Postadolescence
7. Young Adulthood
8. Adulthood
9. Middle Age
10.Old Age.
Each stage has specific tasks of development that lead to a restructuring of the individual's personality organization. The Infancy stage involves Birth The most important developmental functions of this stage are the integration of breathing, elimination, and feeding and the initial consolidation of motility, sensory perceptions, and behavior patterns. This stage is referred to as the oral stage, since feeding and sucking are primary sources of pleasure. The significant aspects of emotional development that occur at this time is the development of Trust versus Mistrust. Books are written on these Life Stages so I have just given you a brief explanation of what occurs during the Life Stage of Infancy as identified by Ericson. Birth and Death are just examples of events that occur during a stage of the Life Cycle. I hope that this helps you. I am an RN who specialized in Psychology, Psychiatry, and Pediarics and taught nursing for over 25 years so I just love this kind of information and knowledge. Good luck to you.
