Zire 71 is an ARM machine, don't recall if it is XScale brand, but regardless of that, it is using ARM and I would ditch Kinoma, use TCPMP for Palm/PPC/desktop http://www.corecodec.org for standard movie player.

I am myself use Tungsten T3, very powerful in comparison to what Zire 71 has, so Zire 71 may run only a lower-quality subset of desktop movie formats (MPEG, DivX...)

I've discussed this topic in a previous posting on my blog:

http://palmdiscovery.netfirms.com/nfblog/2005/12/31/essential-app-11-tcpmp-or-other-video-players/

It covers the ripping software, the video encoders, Palm players, etc.

Hope that helps.
