Did you mean a Karat, or Carat? With gold, it goes as follows:

24 carat (millesimal fineness 999)
22 carat (millesimal fineness 916)
20 carat (millesimal fineness 833)
18 carat (millesimal fineness 750)
16 carat (millesimal fineness 625)
14 carat (millesimal fineness 585)
10 carat (millesimal fineness 417)
9 carat (millesimal fineness 375)

Pure gold is 24K

Pure gold is 24 karat and would be stamped "24K". Since gold in its pure 24K form is too soft to be used in jewelry, it is alloyed with other metals to give it strength. When this is done, the maker of the piece will stamp it with the appropriate number showing the percentage of gold contained therein. The two most common percentages used in jewelry in the US are 14K and 10K. 14K jewelry contains 58.3% pure gold and 10K contains 41.7%.
