What part of Lapland are you going to see Finnish Lapland, Swedish Lapland or Norwegian Lapland?
Finnish Lapland is great for winter sports, skiing, snowmobiling etc, plus you can see Santa!!!! (in Korvatunturi, Finnish Lapland)! The midnight sun is kinda neat, unless you're trying to sleep!) and the sky is very clear at night so you can see the aurora borialis! While there (assuming you're going to Finland) partake in the Finnish tradition of the sauna (sow-na, if you pronounce it san-na you'll get weird looks)...someday I'll build one in my back yard. (Sorry to push Finland, I got a bit of Sami in me.

A colleague of mine who is loaded and travelled everywhere in the world, told me this is the country she would go back to in a shot, AND SHE IS FUSSY. Apparently, it is quite magical if you avoid the usual tourist traps and of course you can visit Santa and tell him what a good boy you have been all year!!

Its great and a good talking point at parties as no one has been! Quiet, tranquil with lots of deer and fresh air. Being there almost makes you believe that a Father Christmas does exist. Very romantic with lots of open fields with no one in sight...!

My lasting impression was that mere photos could not capture the atmosphere -- the purity of the air, the quality of light, the serenity. But it is very, very mosquito ridden! You might like to have the following link for flights: http://www.guildtravel.com
