I live near a zoo and have visited the greenhouse where they exhibit butterflies and have noticed that they have dishes set out on pillar stands with a half a banana, cut long ways, and several cuts into fruit.

Mix sugar and water in a bowl and set it outside. Butterflies like sweet things.

You need to find out what types of butterflies you have in your area and then find out what plants they are likely to be attracted to. Your local wildlife trust or garden centre would probably be able to help.

I've no idea how to attract butterflies with household items! I have a Buddleia in my garden though - and they can't keep away.

Become one! Why not? Give it a try. Wear a butterfly costume. Don't let your neighbors see you though.
