Do you do want to be more neutral colors or darker colors? And what type of style works best for wide hips, and a tall figure?

You can never go wrong with white or red. Always classic. Black too but I think that looks better on older women. I have a suggestion. Get with your girlfriends and go shopping together. What might seem fashionable to one person on here at Yahoo Answers might not be at all what is right and fashionable where you live.
Stores in your local mall would be perfect too.
My niece, who is 16 says this is a good site to find a dress. They have lots of pages to browse

A lot of girls will go for black because it looks good on everyone. If you want to stand out go for a red, crimson, orange or green. Go for a dress that accentuates your waist and then floats out over the hips. It will even things out. I would go for a dress that hits on or below the knee and wear tights in a darker shade. Flats would be cute and very good for dancing. Wear what is comfortable so you can have FUN! :)

A strapless black dress, perhaps with some accent on the waist or above the chest, in white or silver. Perhaps knee length.

A long, single color dress with a warm wrap to cover your arms. I like black with a white wrap, but that can get boring! Use solid colors and classic jewlery

I think like white dress with some accent, or maybe like a royal blue. Dont get something too long though, maybe like knee length or a little lower?

I'd recommend velvet, all one color, in a dark rich color, and not strapless or spaghetti straps. Maybe burgundy, navy blue, deep green?
