I find that I will be needing a new computer within the next 6 months. Any recommendations on what to look for. All I do is surf the net and some office programs. What is a good brand for the money?

Dell is good, the E521 line is very good as far as value for what you pay. A lot of people on here don't like Dell for whatever reason, but they are very good quality. If you need any more help please feel free to email me.

E machines for the money they are easy to upgrade and come with lots of features. One better is the Gateway. But wait until after Christmas a new windows is coming out.H P Is OK and Comode is ok but most do not come with a restore disk and cost more to upgrade.Dells are ok But you pay more for the name .I used a new dell several weeks back that was suppose to be better than mine ,Well it was slow and sucked. If dells are so good why did they lay off hundreds and close some of there places?

I have two Dells. Price was right and so far (2 years) I am very happy with them. You can order it as you wish. For me, I had WindowsXP, Word2003 and Excel2003 installed.

PC arrived. Turned it on - everything was ready. Just had to register as I opened programs.

My Dell 2400 was $299 and I had to pay shipping.
My Dell 3000 was also $299, but I caught it on a weekend sale and got free shipping.

You can try going to www.dell.com and see if they have any refurbished.

i admit out of all the computers that i own, they are all hp. they are the cheapest computer for the money. and yet ive had no problems asside from my laptop getting pretty hot. but thats expected with computer animation. toshiba and sonys and very nice in quality and performance. if you are getting a laptop, get one with a pentium M processor. M stands for mobile so not only will it not get hot, but the battery will last longer, as it is less quiet.
