I'm not exactly sure what you are looking for. But .hack//sign and .hack//legend of the twilight bracelet are both good animes about people who have hacked into the internet game, The World, and the characters who have to save The World.

It's more subtle but Michael from Witch Hunter Robin was recruited because he was a hacker.
Other than that, it's the hack//sign ones.
