When buying antiques, the price on the ticket is not what the dealer expects to get. Do some research and get an idea what the furniture is worth, then make an offer. Normally, haggling isn't done in the UK but with antiques it's ok.

If you want to cut to the chase, ask the dealer what his best price is; best price is the lowest he will accept, If you still think it's too expensive, walk away and look elsewhere.

Yes, it is a genuine Chippendale made out of matchsticks as a wedding present from King Herod to Alfred the Great.
I should go into work tomorrow morning and photocopy my a**e 100 times and pin the copies on every notice board in the building.
Then I would tell the boss to stick his job and keep my backpay and pension because I am going to get $100,000,000 from the British Museum for my furniture and most likely get to sh*g the fit one from Friends.
Mind you it could be a copy and worth approx 50 pence at auction.
Tough Call, eh!

Take a picture of it and go to an antiques dealer. See what they have to say. Some dealers will charge for an appraisal.
