WHEN GEORGE W. Bush rails about the supposed threat of Islamofascism, Iran and its President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad are at the top of his list.

The reality, however, is that Iran is far more open politically than, for example, the U.S. government’s main client in the Arab world, Egypt--where a police state runs phony elections and regularly crushes dissent.

Far from a totalitarian fascist state, Iranian society is simmering with political and class conflicts that will erupt again in the future.

If we were smart (we arent) we (the US) would be encouraging those who work for democracy and peace in Iran. BUT, we have to be controlled ourselves and those who repress the Iranians are the same as those who repress change in the United States. THEY are the real fascists.

So como out of your coma and get active, get the facts and do something now.

Looks like you could use some help here.

Iran is a theocratic Islamic republic governed under the constitution of 1979, as revised in 1989, when presidential powers were expanded and the post of prime minister eliminated. Appointed, rather than elected, offices and bodies hold the real power in the government. The supreme leader, who effectively serves as the chief of state, is appointed for life by an Islamic religious advisory board (the Assembly of Experts). The supreme leader oversees the military and judiciary and appoints members of the Guardian Council and the Expediency Discernment Council. The former, some of whose members are appointed by the judiciary and approved by parliament, works in close conjunction with the government and must approve both candidates for political office and legislation passed by parliament. The latter is a body responsible for resolving disputes between parliament and the Guardian Council over legislation. The president, who is popularly elected for a four-year term, serves as the head of government.

Politicians must be approved by a religious council. Colleges and Universities professors are being purged. Dissenters are blacklisted, imprisoned or try to leave the country.

You are way off on this. Buts that is no surprise.

Good post.....However, as hard as I try, I can't think of one, single Muslim country that advocates free speech, free press, or even minimal individual freedoms. The woman are allocated to second or third class citizenry and protests and dissent are usually met with certain death.
And if you think about it, aren't all of the Muslim nations "simmering with political and class conflicts that will erupt again in the future?" - both internally and with neighboring nations?

If you truly think that "Islamofacism" is a "supposed threat", it is you who had better "get active, get the facts and do something now"

Spain has fallen, France is probably next - have you considered the real consequences of losing this war?

I'm afraid it is you, my friend, who had better either convert to Islam or take the nearest exit out of fantasyland and get a grasp on reality.

The Islamic threat is real - what do they have to do to prove this fact to you?

The US is going the Diplomatic route with Iran. Personally I think Europe and the Middle east have more at stake here than the US does. They are the ones that need to deal with Iran not us. Same with North Korea, it is up the the stake holders in the region to take care if that nut over there.

Iran is one of a few countries that refuses to acknowledge the Holocaust exists. They hate Jews. They want to kill Americans and Israelis. That is why they are on the top of the list.
